PALAZZO DUCALE
Genoa Palazzo Ducale is one of the main historical buildings of the town. House of the doge in the old Republic, it is now one of the principal Ligurian museums.
Left abandoned during a long period of time, and location of the judicial offices before the construction in the seventies of the new Hall of Justice in Portoria, it was completely renovated for the Colombiadi in1992 during which Columbus and the 5th centenary anniversary of the discovery of America were celebrated.
It is the location , on the main floor, of important art exhibitions, congress and meetings (organized in the painted rooms of the del Maggior and del Minor Consiglio) and, in the courtyards and porticos, there are shops and restaurants.
In 2001 Heads of State and Government gathered in Genoa for the G8 and had the summit in Palazzo Ducale.
