The future of TC in the Changing World
LOS TEMAS DEL INSTITUTE
Our objective is to reflect on the future of Therapeutic Communities in the new millennium and build together their development guidelines. To prepare at best the topics of the various days in Genoa, we gave the participants a list of open questions on the most important matters related to the Therapeutic Community model. There are three main questions we want to find an answer to through this meeting. The first is about the changes in the external environment and the consequences on the therapeutic community; in these years drugs have changed, the concept of addiction itself too, but there have been also social and cultural changes that encouraged the use of drugs in the world. The second question has to do with the welfare systems that the communities have to face and that, also in this case, may have had consequences on the community actions. In particular, how users get in touch with the TCs, which support services to the TC are granted outside by the public, the equilibrium between the social and sanitary part in our therapeutic models, and if there are models to import in our structures. Finally, changes inside the therapeutic community. Last but not least . What has changed in these years, what remained unchanged, what was abandoned and what added.
